KidsOut’s 2018 Colour Dash at Drayton Manor raises over £8,000!

Last weekend, over 600 people descended on Drayton Manor theme park to paint the town red… and blue, pink, and yellow!CD 3

On Saturday 8th September, KidsOut hosted their second annual Colour Dash, a 5K Fun Run at Drayton Manor. The aim: end up as colourful as possible while raising money for KidsOut!

The event was another huge success, raising over £10,000! This money will go towards bringing fun and happiness to disadvantaged children around the UK.

People of all ages, then paint-free, arrived at the park to collect their race pack. This included their ticket to the theme park, a t-shirt, race number and most importantly, a packet of colour powder to use later on! To ignite the party atmosphere, the crowds were serenaded with music by guest DJ Extraordinaire Matt Bullock, AKA Social Command!

After the anticipation had grown, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived: the Colour Throw! The crowd hurled powder paint through the air, with once clean clothes now closely resembling abstract art pieces. Think Jackson Pollock on a sports-shirt. The guests were now ready to let their colours run!

Children’s Services allocated 168 places at the Colour Dash to refuges and families we work with up and down the country, and some of the feedback we had was humbling:

“The impact [of an event like Colour Dash] is beyond measurable. We had children and families who conquered their fears to get messy and let go of their inhibitions.” – a refuge worker

“To see everyone’s faces light up with excitement, enjoyment and beaming with joy is something that we will remember for a very long time […] Thank you for helping us put so much laughter, fun and smiles on those who need it the most.” – a refuge worker

“Today was the best day – when are we coming again?” – a child attendee

CD 1KidsOut wants to say a big thank you to Chris Adcock and Jill Johnson for all their hard work in assisting the fundraising team to put the event together and coordinate on the day.  Huge thanks also go to the team at Drayton Manor for letting us use their camp site and cover the venue in colour! Thank you so much to all of our fantastic volunteers made up of friends, family, supporters and members of local Rotary Clubs.  Without your fantastic help on the day the event would not have been possible.  Finally, the event could not have gone ahead without the support of our amazing main sponsor, Advanced Boardroom Excellence.

We’ll be uploading photos to our social media channels over the coming weeks, so be sure to follow our Twitter and Facebook pages to follow our updates.

Next year’s Colour Dash planning is already underway, keep your eyes peeled for announcements – we’ll make more news available to you when we have it. Colour us excited!
