Leighton Buzzard-based children’s charity KidsOut is happy to announce it has been selected by Co-op to benefit from the Local Community Fund 2020. All the money raised from the initiative will go towards providing Fun Days out to disadvantaged children in the Bedfordshire and Luton area.

The Co-op Local Community Fund helps pay for local projects around the UK. Every time a Co-op member shops at a local store or funeral care, 1% of what they spend on selected own-branded products and services goes to help fund community projects where they live. KidsOut has been selected as one of the local causes in the Leighton Buzzard area, being supported by three local Co-op stores and one funeral care.

All the funds raised for KidsOut will support the charity’s Bedfordshire and Luton Fun Days project, enabling local disadvantaged children to enjoy trips and days out to popular attractions and events. The children supported by KidsOut – like those in refuge and siblings of the critically or mentally ill – face restricted access to local opportunities. Feelings of anger and anxiety lead to greater risks of developing mental health issues and hinder development. Fun Days bring these disadvantaged children into the community, enhancing their mental wellbeing and social inclusion.

Gavin Bedford, who manages KidsOut’s relationships with charitable funds, commented that the children’s charity is “over the moon to have been selected as one of the local causes being supported by Co-op. Although KidsOut works nationally, the charity is proud to call Leighton Buzzard its home, providing extensive services to hundreds of children every year in the local area. The team are excited to work alongside local Co-op employees to help spread KidsOut’s message and raise money to bring even more fun and happiness to the children who need it most in our local area.”

“We are so pleased to have KidsOut as one of our community partners this year,” added Lyndsey Barber, Store Manager of Co-op Heath and Reach. “The work they do to give disadvantaged children in our area the chance to have some fun and enjoy activities many of us would take for granted is such a worthwhile cause.”
