KidsOut Run Royal Parks Half

47 runners donned their florescent tops on 9th October 2016 and ran the 13.1 mile route of the Royal Parks Half Marathon all in aid of KidsOut.

This year with over 16,000 runners, the Royal Parks Half Marathon takes in the capital’s world-famous landmarks on closed roads, and four of London’s eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens.

The majority of Team KidsOut had signed up to take part in the race at one of KidsOut’s Question of Sport events or the London Ball, pledging to raise funds for the charity in sponsorship. Most of the runners had set up personal fundraising pages online, using Just Giving and BT My Donate, and at time of writing, four days after the race, our fantastic runners have raised just over £25,000 including gift aid. KidsOut were delighted to learn that in the week leading up to the half marathon, they were in the top 10 fundraisers on BT My Donate, all thanks to our runners’ fabulous supporters.

The race was a particular success for one runner. Grenville Riley raised over £1,500 for KidsOut, shed two stone in the training process and has already committed to run next year’s Royal Parks for KidsOut too.

“When I put my hand up at the London Question of Sport event I had never run a half marathon before – in fact I think my longest run at that time was 7km. Signing up for the Royal Parks race was one of the best things I have ever done as it got me fit, losing two stone in the process, and has given me a new passion. I have the bug so much that I am running another half marathon next Sunday!”

KidsOut would like to say a huge congratulations to all our runners for the hard work put into both training and sponsorship. We’re so proud of you all!
