UPDATE: Due to overwhelming demand, KidsOut is delighted to announce that the new fundraising initiative ‘KidsIn 8000’ has been extended to taking place over the whole of June 2020!
The charity needs your help to raise £80,000 to enable KidsOut to give 8,000 children and mothers in refuge the opportunity to go on a fun day out to the cinema (or a similar fun experience depending on restrictions ) with a drink and popcorn when social distancing measures allow! A fun day out helps children remember what it is like to be a child again and have fun. Fun Days give children something to look forward to and happy memories to last a lifetime.
Every penny raised from ‘KidsIn 8000’ will be spent on bringing fun & happiness to families in refuge!
How do I take part?
Getting involved is simple. All you have to do is:
- Think up an activity around the numbers 8, 80, 800, or 8,000
- Set up a fundraising page online at Charity Checkout
- Ask your friends, family, and colleagues to sponsor you
Easy!
This can be any activity that you can dream of such as cooking, walking, running, skipping, or weightlifting! Why not run 8 miles over the course of a week? What about baking 80 fairy cakes? You could even complete eight 1,000 piece puzzles in a row! The possibilities are endless!
Challenges can take place over the month of June on a timescale to suit you! This can be a single day, week, or even the whole month. Whatever works best for you. The only rule is that you only take part in an activity if it is safe for you to do so and you are following government social distancing rules.
Supporting those affected by Covid-19
While the UK is facing an unprecedented health crisis, there has been a stark rise in domestic violence. There’s been a 25% increase in calls to refuges which unfortunately are all nearly full. Social distancing measures have compounded the extreme isolation many of these children already face while in refuge, with most living through this crisis restricted to a single room with their mother and siblings. In the coming weeks and months more mothers and children will require the sanctuary of a women’s refuge.
KidsOut normally take approximately thousands of children out to theme parks and other outdoor attractions across the UK on the second Wednesday in June as part of the National Rotary KidsOut Day. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the charity is unable to do this. Disadvantaged children are missing out on a day that not only do they look forward to, but also helps with the protection their mental health.
By taking part in in KidsIn 8000 you will be ensuring KidsOut can provide the Fun Day out to the cinema (or a similar fun experience depending on what restrictions allow at the time) when it is safe to so. In a recent KidsOut survey the cinema was the first choice voted for by the children for their preferred Fun Day out. It is crucial that KidsOut can continue to support the welfare of children in refuge with Fun Days when social distancing measure allow.
