After the success of 2018’s Giving Tree, which saw over 43,000 toys and £15,000 donated, KidsOut are excited to announce the return of this year’s Giving Tree.
With over 750 companies, schools, and individuals taking part last year, KidsOut needs more support for 2019 to ensure every child in a Women’s Aid Refuge has the opportunity to receive a toy at Christmas!
What is Giving Tree?
KidsOut’s Giving Tree initiative invites firms to ‘Ditch Secret Santa’ and buy toys for children in local refuge homes instead. Many of the recipients are children who have escaped domestic violence, being forced to flee their homes quickly and leave all possessions behind. Without Giving Tree, these children may not otherwise receive a gift at Christmas.
Businesses, schools, and organisations can take part by turning their Christmas tree into a special KidsOut “Giving Tree”. In the lead up to Christmas, decorative tags with a child’s name, age, and suggested gift are placed on the tree, with participants being invited to take a tag and buy the present for £5-£10. KidsOut will arrange the collection of the gifts to distribute to children in local refuges.
Designed to be a fun alternative to the more traditional Secret Santa, not only is it simple to get involved but a fun exercise for the whole office!
How does it work?
Taking part is simple. Here are five easy steps explaining the Giving Tree process:
- Sign up on the KidsOut website to order Giving Tree tags for your office
- KidsOut will send you tags with a child’s name, age, and suggested toy for you to hang up on your office Christmas Tree
- Encourage your colleagues to take a tag and buy the gift
- Collect the gifts from your office and deliver them to your nearest collection point
- KidsOut will collect the toys from the collection point and distribute them to children in refuge
In 2018 more than 750 companies signed up to participate in Giving Tree, with thousands of toys donated by employees, friends and customers. Click above to see some of the amazing Giving Trees on display for 2018!
