Half-Term Cooking Fun Days with Smart Raspberry!

On Tuesday 18th February 2020, KidsOut enabled 12 children from local refuges in the Leighton Buzzard area to attend a Fun Day out to a cookery workshop hosted by the charity’s partners at Smart Raspberry.

Working in groups over the two-hour session, the children followed the instructor step-by-step to create tomato, rosemary, and parmesan palmiers. Whilst these were cooking away in the oven, the children also prepared passionfruit sponge cake!

One child who attended the workshop was eager to tell the KidsOut team that the workshop was “so much fun, I can’t wait to make another cake at home!”

A refuge worker who attended told the team that the workshop was important because it allowed the children to “learn a new skill, make new friends, and do something they otherwise would not be able to.”

A member of the Children’s Services team who assisted at the workshop reported that “the support workers were very grateful for the workshop taking place in the half-term holidays as it gave the children something fun and educational to do. It was great to see every child that attended having an amazing time!”

KidsOut Fun Days are developed in consultation with our service users, always being customised to the interests of the children we support. In particular, they benefit the blossoming of four key areas essential to success later in life: social skills, confidence, motivation, and resilience. Children are empowered to develop the coping mechanisms needed for good mental health.

The KidsOut team would like to thank Smart Raspberry for hosting a fantastic workshop and their continued support.
