Cardiff ‘Question of Christmas’ Success

po_251116_kids_out_021On the 25th November 2016, over 350 guests gathered at Cardiff City Hall for the annual KidsOut quiz, except this year with a festive twist. Taking place exactly once month before Christmas day, the event took the form of a ‘Question of Christmas’ for the first time ever, and raised £21,000 for disadvantaged children in Wales.

The City Hall Assembly Room was decorated with paper chains and Christmas figures including a snowman. Supported by Designer Contracts, Barratt and David Wilson Homes and Hasbro, the black-tie evening saw guests wearing either a Santa hat or reindeer ears, with a turkey hat for each table’s host, as well as pulling crackers, enjoying a Christmas dinner and testing their festive knowledge in the Christmas-themed quiz. The evening also started with a generous £2,600 donation from Vectos, who held their own quiz night back in October in aid of KidsOut.

Mike Osman once again acted as compere and auctioneer, with Welsh Rugby Union player Rhys Williams as quiz master. Emma Batchelor sang beautifully along with the KidsOut video, after which guests pledged an outstanding £5,170 for Fun Days. The Christmas themed Higher and Lower game was also a highlight, as well as Spot the Snowball game. A ‘32 Days of Christmas’ singalong was a particularly fun feature, led wonderfully by the Committee Chair David Kelland.

The main auction featured prizes including 6 Nations tickets and a signed rugby top, Wales v South Africa rugby tickets, an original Chagall lithograph ‘Cross and Clocktower’, with the silent auction including fabulous signed photos, memorabilia and experiences. 36 guests also pledged to run the Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2017 and raise sponsorship for KidsOut.

W D Lewis topped the ‘Scrooge League’ with their quiz result of 3184 points, whilst RGWquiz-winners-rgw-plant-and-surfacing Plant and Surfacing (left) were overall winners of the ‘Santa League’ with a fantastic score of 3568.

The first ‘Question of Christmas’ proved a huge success, and KidsOut would like to thank the committee – in particular David Kelland and Nicola Woods, and all sponsors of the event. Thanks also go to Istead and Event Tech for their continued hard work at the KidsOut corporate events.
