Big Day Out: Aldershot Garrison Rugby Ground

The sunshine yesterday saw over 700 children and their teachers/carers enjoy an amazing KidsOut Big Day Out day at Aldershot Garrison Rugby Ground.  Out thanks go to the Roy, Kevin and their fantastic Rotary team for making the day one the children will never forget. The children were welcomed to the Site by Rotarian District Governor Vivian Gicquel and some of the local volunteers dressed as clowns: all of which helped to ensure that the day started with a smile.

The kids were able to roam across the whole of the secure area which meant that everyone could relax and enjoy various rides, including on a miniature steam train, face-painting, dancing, hula-hooping classes, bouncy castles and slides and to learn circus tricks.  They were treated to lunch, followed by ice creams, which rounded off the day nicely.  Judging by the smiling faces on everyone as they left the site, all of the helpers can justly proud of their efforts in providing a wonderful experience.

Thank you to all of the Rotarians whose selfless efforts ensured that all of the children left tired and happy.  It was wonderful to see the the local mayor, The Worshipful the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Martin Tennant, and surrounding mayor Councillor Joanne Potter, the Mayor of Surrey Heath, visit the event.  They were escorted around the Site separately and engaged fully with the kids and the staff; Martin managed to sneak a picture with the COO, but Joanne left with a Big Day Out t-shirt!

A special mention must go to the children from Walsh School from Ash who gave a charming thank-you speech to the organising team before handing over a collection of their pocket money to KidsOut so that it might help “provide a toy box for another child even less fortunate than themselves”.  Such generosity touched everyone who was there and we will make sure that your kindness is rewarded: thank you!
