10,000 children to receive Christmas present
As the year draws to a close, KidsOut can proudly say that over 10,000 presents have been sent to disadvantaged children across the UK. This is largely due to the phenomenal success of this year’s Giving Tree initiative, which has seen dozens of companies across the UK ditch Secret Santa and buy gifts for disadvantaged children instead.
In the lead up to Christmas, over 8,000 children have experienced not only the annual Festive Fun Day at Drayton Manor theme park, but pantos and theatre trips, the cinema, indoor play areas, and festive parties organised by our wonderful partners Hasbro, Green Board Games, The Grove Theatre and our Midlands Committee.
As well as every child in refuge, hundreds of other children from disadvantaged groups have already or will receive a Christmas present, including the Rainbow Trust charity. The Rainbow Trust supports children who have a sibling or parent terminally ill in hospice, and KidsOut have wrapped and sent 500 presents for these children, thanks to a team from Ciena for their help.
One of the many refuges who received Christmas presents, Safer Places domestic abuse support services, posted a thank you to KidsOut on their Facebook page:
“KidsOut have sent this amazing delivery of brand new toys for the children in refuge. Incredible generosity at this time of year, a time of year we all do our best to create happy, lifelong memories, including the staff at Safer Places. Thank you for helping us achieve this mission KidsOut We are so so excited to get these wrapped up and given out in preparation for Christmas morning, magical!”
Receiving a simple present such as a jigsaw puzzle, craft kit or cuddly toy really can make all the difference to a disadvantaged child at Christmas, particularly those who have fled their home with little or no possessions due to domestic abuse. Any toys donated for the Giving Tree but not sent out at Christmas will be used in the Toy Box service, in which KidsOut send a box full of toys to children when they are rehoused from refuge. This is often in a new and unfamiliar area away from all they know, and toys can provide some comfort in their new life.
KidsOut would like to particularly thank Hasbro for their ongoing support in donating toys and games to the Toy Box scheme. Our heartfelt thanks also go to Arsenal football club for the wonderful support for the Giving Tree appeal this year.
We would especially like to thank all of the Arsenal players that gave up heir valuable time and to the staff that produced a wonderful video. View the video on the KidsOut Facebook page here.
A huge thanks must also go to every company and individual who supported the Giving Tree initiative by purchasing a toy or making a donation. Visit the gallery of Giving Trees on our website here: https://www.kidsout.org.uk/how-companies-can-help/giving-tree/giving-tree-2016/
Thanks to our wonderful supporters and Merry Christmas from all at KidsOut!
