The Switch Project at Dovecotes Arts Centre

The Switch Project is the newest programme of activities on offer at Dovecotes Arts Centre in Pendeford, Wolverhampton.

Staff at the Centre specialise in delivering vocational qualifications and workshops in skills such as music production, media studies, film and graphic design. Working with young people considered as having behavioural, emotional or social development needs, staff are trained as ‘National Specialist Leaders in Behaviour and Attendance.’  By using the fantastic computer and new media equipment that KidsOut UK kindly provided, the project engages participants in exciting and interesting sessions, whilst also looking to help address the social and personal development aspects of a young person’s life.

Young people access The Switch Project in a variety of ways. Sessions are run daily for those young people who have been, or are at risk of being, excluded from mainstream education. Alternatively, projects can be tailored to a specific need or subject and any children and young persons’ service or organisation can commission staff to deliver workshops. Topics that The Switch Project have previously covered include bullying, anti-social behaviour, substance misuse, the local environment, teenage fathers, sexual health and safe relationships and confidence building amongst other things.
