Delivering a Tall Story

KidsOut has long recognised the huge amount of fun and happiness that can be achieved from a really good story. For years, our charity has been funding professional storytellers to entertain and bring light and laughter into the lives of disadvantaged children - from those in special needs schools to children's hospices.

Recognising its success, the KidsOut storytelling initiative is taking this a step further by running a project that trains workers and carers of vulnerable and special needs children to create and tell stories that encourage the development of children's imagination.

We are also helping to create specific stories targeting the promotion of inter-faith tolerance as well as those that are designed to help children with life limiting conditions, and their siblings, come to terms with death and bereavement.

Already this initiative has already brought a smile to the faces of children - and their siblings - in hospices and special groups, as well as those supported by Playbus schemes, TocH, and the Storybook Dads project which helps maintain relationships between children and parent prisoners.

We believe that by giving those who work directly with young disadvantaged people this highly valued skill, we are helping to spread fun and happiness for the children in their care for years to come.
