The Oakbank Badminton Champions!
The Badminton England Associaton kindly helped us arranged private badminton sessions for some students of Oak Bank School in Leighton Buzzard, who have learning and behavioural difficulties. This was a great way for them to get active outside of the school with the rackets! The sessions were run by professional badminton coach Herman Fung and included 7 students per session.
The sessions went very well and the boys enjoyed learning to play badminton. There was a fair share of free play and training which definitely kept the students on their toes! The school does not have many facilities for sport, which is why we are happy to help them find space to get them active. Many of the students have social and emotional needs, and they found the badminton sessions to be a great coping mechanism, a method of releasing aggression and just a fun, active day!
Mr Whitcombe, who accompanied the pupils to the sessions, said:
“All pupils enjoyed the sessions and each week they looked forward to attending. There was good engagement each week and Herman worked well with pupils from Oak Bank engaging them in activities that were fun and challenging. The sessions helped to raise the profile of the sport at Oak Bank as other pupils asked if they could do badminton. Many thanks to Kids Out for organising this opportunity.”
KidsOut would like to thank Badminton England, especially Herman Fung for giving up his time to run the weekly sessions with the boys.
