Multi Media Outreach

Rural isolation is often a forgotten problem for the UK's young people. Many kids growing up in rural areas suffer from a lack of things to do, amenities for them to use and the ability to meet up with their friends due to the distances involved and the lack of available transport.

Indeed, drug mis-use and suicide are statistically more prevalent in the countryside than they are in towns and cities.

This is where KidsOut Multi-Media Outreach comes in. We are working with partners around the country to provide a fantastic resource for these kids to use.

We currently have 5 Multi-Media vans operating around the UK, as well as one static centre in Wolverhampton. Each is fully equipped with the latest multi-media equipment that the kids can use to make things that they are proud of. Our partners have worked with kids to help them to produce music, films, animations, songs, comics and photographic projects.

It gives literally thousands of kids something to do when they have nothing and gives them their first taste of the digital creative world.

Already our Multi-Media Outreach has led to some kids producing a film that they used to get further funding to create their own company. Others have been refusing to go to school but, as a result of working with the Multi-Media Outreach, are now back in the classroom learning and improving their life chances. Wherever the vans are, anti-social behaviour drops. And we have helped thousands of kids just have a great time and create something that they can be proud of!

As we are using new vans rather than the traditional old buses it means they can go virtually anywhere and they don't break down all of the time! This means that kids get a reliable service. Also, many projects like this only run for as long as the initial money is available; once it runs out, the scheme closes, which isn't great for the kids. However, we are ensuring that they become self‑sustaining, charging schools and councils for work, so that they are free to the kids outside school time and they will be operating long after the initial money has run out!

KidsOut is the only charity doing work like this, at this level of professionalism, which makes us a leader in our field in the UK!
