John Lewis Birmingham supports the Giving Tree

img-20161208-wa0002KidsOut’s Head of Children’s Services Sandra Doherty met with some wonderful volunteers at John Lewis in Birmingham on Thursday 8th December. The team were invited into the store during the evening’s exclusive ‘My John Lewis’ event, to promote the Giving Tree initiative.

This Christmas, KidsOut is aiming to give every child in refuge the opportunity to receive a Christmas present. Children and their families often escape domestic abuse to the safety of a refuge, yet this means they must leave their home, possessions and all they know. KidsOut provides Fun Days out for families in refuge, and a Toy Box for children when they are relocated. Christmas is an exciting time for all children, but it can be difficult for those escaping domestic violence. Through the Giving Tree, companies and individuals can contribute toys and gifts to the KidsOut ‘Presents at Christmas’ scheme to ensure we #MakeKidsHappy this festive season.

Our thanks to our volunteers, the many John Lewis customers who kindly donated a toy to the initiative (see some of them below) or stopped and spoke to the team, and special thanks to John Lewis Birmingham for enabling this great opportunity.

If you would like to support the Giving Tree but your company isn’t signed up to take part, you can text a donation and KidsOut will purchase a toy on your behalf. Text KOUT16 £10 to 70070 to donate £10 towards the initiative.
