Fundraising Ideas

A

Auction of Promises - Hire a venue, such as a local hall, get friends and colleagues to donate a promise of their time, use of their belongings or skills, or to donate a gift, and get selling to the highest bidder.

B

Bag it up - Simply ask your local supermarket if you can bag customers' shopping and ask for a donation for your service. It's simple, it's a proven way to raise lots of money, and it's a great way to meet people.

BBQ - hold a summer fun day at work or with friends and family. Charge for food along with other activities such as face painting or a raffle.

C

Come dine with me - Create your very own version of the popular TV show. You and a few friends or family all take turns to host a dinner party in one week. At end of each evening, you all rate the host's performance. Ask for a donation to take part.

Caption Competition - you need a group of at least 25 people. Get a photo of your club chairman or work CEO doing something unusual and then get everyone to submit a caption for £1. Winner gets 50% of the proceeds.

Darts match - charge an entry fee, have a raffle and refreshments. Make it fun - ladies versus, left handed throws only etc.

Disco Dance - Get hold of a cool DJ, some great music and get dancing.  Charge entry, organise a raffle and have fun.

EBay - register yourself on eBay.co.uk or another auction site and auction off your old, unwanted items. You're likely to raise more money than you would from a car boot sale and have fun watching the items go up in price at the same time!

Fancy dress days - pay to wear fancy dress or dress down to work or school and fine those that don't make the effort. Non-uniform days at school are always popular. In the office have crazy tie, bad hat or yellow and blue only days. April Fools Day is ideal for this.

Football - Organise a football tournament, show off your skills and raise money at the same time by charging an entrance fee along with a BBQ and a raffle.

Guy Fawkes party - if you have a large garden organize a firework display, charge for admission and refreshments.

Glam Rock - Do you remember the 70's? Have a themed night around a great era in pop history.

H

Head and tails auction - good to do at a dinner evening. Get everyone to stand up and pass a bucket around collecting people's change. Everyone decides whether they're heads or tails by putting a hand on their head or their bottom. Flip a coin on stage and announce the results. Those who get it wrong sit down. Continue until only one person is left. Winner gets a prize.

Head shave - Find a friend willing to have their head shaved for charity, get them sponsored and donate the money to Village-to-Village

Halloween party - hold a fancy dress party at your house or in a local bar. Ask for an entrance fee. Organise a DJ, spooky decorations and nibbles.

Incredible Journey - Which sponsored team can make it from one side of the country, state or county quickest and cheapest?

Ice Skating - Get people to sponsor you for how many times you can go around the ring without falling over.

Jumble sales - Hold a jumble sale or a car boot sale-get rid of unwanted items and raise money at the same time.

Just giving - Use the free online Just giving pages to advertise your event.

Karaoke Evening - Ask a local pub to host a Karaoke night for you and charge people to get in or take part.

Lunch Money - Ask all your colleagues to bring in sandwiches for their lunch and donate the money they saved to charity

Local races and marathons - take advantage of any local races that are established in your area. Book a place and ask friends for sponsorship.

M

Match the pet to the owner competition - Ask your colleagues to bring in one photo of themselves and one of their pet. Charge people £1 a time to match up all the photographs

Match of the Day - 2010 is the next world cup as football reaches fever pitch, why not organize world themed breakfasts, lunches or dinners while watching the matches

N

No more boring lunches - If you're a whizz in the kitchen why not bring some prepared dishes into the office or depot on a Friday and ask for a donation from colleagues for their lunch

O

Office mini Olympic challenge - Get everyone at your work involved in a mini Olympic challenge. Think up some fun competitions such as chair-racing, who can punch most holes in a sheet of A3 in a minute, or who can cover themselves in the most post-it notes.

Outdoor Activities - White water rafting, canoeing, abseiling- what could you and you team do and be sponsored for?

Photography competition - Invite your friends to get their baby photos out and pay £1.00 a go to 'guess the baby'.

Pub games evening - teams pay to enter for dominoes, skittles, darts, pool, quizzes etc. Have plenty of fun prizes and charge for refreshments.

Q

Quiz night - Get your friends, family or colleagues together (at the pub, work, someone's house or on email). Ask them to pay £5 and answer 50 questions. The winner gets half the money and the rest goes towards your fundraising target.

Question of Sport - All you sports fanatics, make up your own questions and test your friends' knowledge at your house or at a local pub.

R

Race night - organize an event at your local dog or horse racing stadium or arrange a 'fake' racing night.

Rock ?n' Roll - Fancy Dress. Karaoke. Disco. Tribute Band, If you've got rock, the money will roll.

S

Stand up bingo - sell bingo cards around the room, each with one number on it. Ask all the participants to stand up. Spin the balls and when a number is called that person has to sit down. The last one standing scoops the prize. Good for dinner dances.

Sports events - do you belong to a sports club? Why not persuade them to hold a charity day? People could pay to enter a competition

T

Treasure hunt - get some prizes donated and organize a set of clues leading people from one location to the next. All participants pay a fee to enter

Twenty-four-hour - Raise money by giving something up for 24 hours e.g. sleeping

U

Unwanted gifts - After Christmas we all have those inevitable scratchy jumpers or socks we would rather pass on. Get together with friends and have a sale, donate the money raised to KidsOut.

Undress to Impress - Hold a "dress down day" at work or at school and pay £1 to KidsOut to take part.

V

Visit every stop on the underground - Get sponsored to visit every stop on the underground/subway/metro in a day

W

Wine tasting evening - spend an evening tasting fine wines. Ask attendees to pay an entry fee, provide wine, cheese and French bread free of charge. Try and get the wine donated or buy it from France!

Whole heap of change - Provide local shops/pubs with jars to put by the till, collect them after a week or so and see how much money you have raised!

X

X-factor - Maybe your friends/colleagues have undiscovered talents? Host a talent show and charge for admission and refreshmens

Y

Yoghurt - Not to everyone's taste - but how about getting sponsored to sit in a bath of yoghurt or cold baked beans?

Z

Zany events - the list is endless... throw a custard pie at your manager, eat jelly with chopsticks, greatest number of marshmallows in a mouth. People can get sponsored or pay to enter.
